in a piece on gateworld.net brad copper tells us that the 9th chevron will play a major factor in the third series Stargate Universe. He also says that it will be a stand alone series in the stargate universe and not be a direct spin off of either Atlantis or SG-1.

well i cant think of a few possibilities the 9th chevron might do:

Time Travel <---- my personal favourite

Could take you to a parallel dimension like the quantum mirror...

Could take you to another universe? seeing as we dont know what our universe is expanding into?? lol... its... p.o.s.s.i.b.l.e. i suppose...

i like the idea of time travel

My thoughts on what the 9th chevron is for.

Accesses control pannel of stargate
Planet Self-Destruct
Charging ZPMs :D (anyone know how they are charged)
Possible two stargates on a planet
Something with the wormhole
two way travel :D
longer than 38 minutes for established connection
Asecended planet or people :D

well we know these things are possible with gates so maybe the ancients knew how to work them properly meaning not by actcident and put that in as the 9th chevron

well 8th goes to different galaxy so where would 9th go. but i dont see how a stargate series could be based around time travel or alternate universe.
maybe for alternate universe they get a chance to try the 9th chevron and get thrown into an alternate universe and have to find there way back into their own

that sounds too much like the stargate cartoon series :P and im not going into how rubbish that was...

They said in the interview that the new series would not be set in the past or in the future because one of the major draws of the series is that it is us, our militaries, our people, that are doing this not some future society or past civilization. The concept was originally thought up as a feature length film but was good enough to become a stand alone series.

ahh too bad :( i was thinking that they could use the 9th chevron to go forward or backward in time for a set amount of time... do some work in that time frame, and come back to this one..

But it would cause huge problems... so i see why they havent done time travel... im just wondering what it could be about...

PS i hope they change the name... 'Stargate Universe' just doesnt get me hyped :P

Ya. Well I would think using a ninth chevron would send them somewhere new, much like using an eigth did as well.

I really can't imagine how it will be more stand alone then atlantis unless they send an expedition to a far away place with no hope of return..... but thats sort of what atlantis was at first.... so ya.... It'll be interesting to hear more. I wish this one page write up they did would get published somewhere on the net!

(Stargate Universe doesn't really do it for me either... but I am sure the name will change...)
